The Granum Communications President grabs a second station for his JMJ Broadcasting Co. by acquiring 100kw Country KTPK-FM/Topeka, KS from Berl Brechner's Kansas Capital Broadcasting for $5.7 million. KTPK's booming signal reaches not only Kansas' state capital but also Manhattan, KS, home of Kansas State University; Lawrence, KS, home of the University of Kansas; and the western portion of the Kansas City metropolitan area. JMJ's other property is KXGL/Amarillo, TX. Media Venture Partners served as the broker for the deal, and McCord tells R&R that JMJ expects to close on KTPK shortly after Jan. 1, 2005. McCord, an industry veteran who once served as GM of the fabled CKLW/Windsor-Detroit during its Top 40 heyday, was recently elected Finance Committee Chair of the RAB.
