Laura Thornquist, who was recently hired as the weekend morning anchor at Kansas City's Meredith-owned KCTV-5-CBS from Denver's KWGN-2-WB, has been released from her contract because she disobeyed an order from News Director Regent Ducas.

Thornquist needed to make a quick trip back to Denver to sign the closing papers on her house and to pick up her young son and bring him to K.C. It was her day off, and she was not scheduled to work.

But, insiders tell us, because May sweeps were underway, News Director Ducas didn't want her to leave town.

She went anyway...and got busted.
