INFINITY VP/Adult Top 40 Programming and Top 40 KMXV (MIX 93.3) & AC KSRC (STAR 102)/KANSAS OM/PD JON ZELLNER leaves the market after 8 successful years to become OM/PD at sister Modern AC WBMX (MIX 98-5) and WODS (OLDIES 103.3)/BOSTON, replacing former VP/PD GREG STRASSELL who was recently promoted to INFINITY Sr. VP/Programming.
And, crosstown GREATER MEDIA GSM BARBARA JEAN SCANNELL joins WBMX as its new VP/GM, beginning MARCH 22nd.
WBMX, WBCN, WZLX Sr. VP/GM MARK HANNON said, "BARBARA JEAN is a seasoned BOSTON radio veteran with tremendous market knowledge. Her great passion and unbridled enthusiasm will be a welcome addition to WBMX, and I look forward to partnering with her in the continued growth of our radio station."
SCANNELL noted, "I started my career at MIX 98-5 in 1991 as an Account Executive so this feels like a natural transition to me. WBMX is a stellar organization with a world-class group of people. I'm thrilled to be joining such an outstanding station."
Regarding ZELLNER, HANNON added, "JON is one of the best talents in the radio industry and we are very fortunate to have him pick up the mantle from GREG STRASSELL and bring WBMX into the future with new leadership and energy. I look forward to working with JON in continuing WBMX's position as the premier HOT AC radio station in AMERICA."
WBZ-A, WODS VP/GM TED JORDAN added, "Over the past two years, WODS has grown tremendously under the guidance of one of the finest PDs in the country. We are confident that when JON ZELLNER steps in to replace GREG STRASSELL, the station will get that same kind of expertise and leadership that will ensure continued audience growth for OLDIES 103.3 in BOSTON."
ZELLNER remarked, "GREG STRASSELL has done an amazing job of making MIX 98-5 AMERICA's premier Hot AC station. I'm looking forward to working with MARK HANNON, BARBARA JEAN SCANNELL, JOHN LANDER and the rest of the staff. And what can I say about OLDIES 103.3? The opportunity to work with a legendary air personality like DALE DORMAN is every PD's dream. I'm excited about working with TED JORDAN and the rest of the OLDIES 103.3 staff. The success of these two radio stations speaks for itself and while leaving KANSAS CITY was the hardest decision I've ever had to make, I can't wait to get to work in BOSTON."
ZELLNER begins his new duties on MONDAY, APRIL 19th. No word on who replaces him in KANSAS CITY.
