The suburban Detroit-based company led by Sima Birach has agreed to purchase Metropolitan Radio Group's WEW-AM/St. Louis for $1.35 million. WEW, which presently airs Nostalgia/Big Band programming, is the oldest radio station west of the Mississippi River and the second oldest radio station in the country, debuting in April 1921. However, WEW remains a 1kw daytimer in order to protect WABC/New York, KKOB/Albuquerque and CHQR/Calgary — all of which broadcast with 50kw. Metropolitan purchased WEW in May 1996 for $435,000, from Alliance Broadcasting Co. John Pierce of John Pierce & Company served as broker for the deal. |
