Wal-mart/St. Louis Radio Stations

August 14, 2003

Wal-mart wants five Saint Louis radio stations to drop a paid spot taken out by UNITED FOOD AND COMMERCIAL WORKERS Local 655 that criticizes Wal-mart's practices towards its employees. The retailer sent a letter to KYKY (Y-98), KEZK, WIL, KMJM (MAJIC 104.9), and WVRV (THE RIVER) demanding that the spot be pulled; the union is standing behind the ad and WAL-MART would have to prove actual malice on the part of the stations in order to prevail in a legal action against them.
